Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death
Randomized controlled trials suggest that treatment with β-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, aldosterone antagonists, and statins results not only in a reduction in all-cause mortality but specifically also in sudden cardiac death. Furthermore, the use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators can decrease the risk of overall and sudden cardiac death mortality in carefully selected patient groups, primarily in patients with chronic stable CAD.
