ALLHAT: Quick Reference for Health Care Providers
This is an excellent overview of the findings from the ALLHAT study, which found that thiazide diuretics continue to be an excellent choice as a first line antihypertensive medication among a wide range of demographic groups. Comment: this article is helpful in that it combines findings from all aspects of the ALLHAT study, whereas the JAMA research publications usually just address one finding of the study. ALLHAT was a large study with surprising findings that have important clinical ramifications. [ ALLHAT: Quick Reference for Health Care Providers from the NHLB Institute. ]
