Water: Your Most Important Nutrient

Heston TF. Water: your most important nutrient. <http://www.medjournal.com> 21-Jun-1997.

Drinking tap water frequently will not give you optimum health, because tap water frequently contains pesticides, radon, lead, and many other toxic contaminants. The problem is that we don't like bugs in our water, so we chlorinate it. Well, the chlorine kills bugs, and guess what? It also is bad for people. Pesticides kill bugs, and they are bad for us. One of the worst offenders has to be lead.

In many municipalities, our water quality simply isn't good enough. It contains too much lead. This is bad, and it affects both children and adults. For children, the problem with lead starts virtually at conception. In a recent report of the United States Preventive Services Task Force, it was estimated that a full 17% of American Children suffered from lead toxicity. This is not good. Lead toxicity in children can cause anemia, delayed mental & physical development, and permanently impaired mental abilities (lowering the IQ). But lead doesn't selectively cause problems for children. The effects of lead toxicity affect people throughout life.

In adults, one of the biggest problems with lead is its effects on blood pressure. It causes high blood pressure, which we are better without. The problem with high blood pressure is that it is a leading risk factor for heart disease (the leading cause of death in the U.S.), kidney disease, and stroke. The EPA reports that 680,000 cases of high blood pressure in adult men could be prevented by reducing lead in drinking water.

MAKE SURE YOUR WATER IS KEEPING YOU HEALTHY, NOT GIVING YOU DISEASE!

If you are serious about attaining optimum health, take the 1st step: make absolutely 100% sure you are drinking the best water possible!
