Farenheit 9/11: Lying for Money and Political Gain

Moore's Propaganda Strategy for Personal Gain. Michael Moore exemplifies greed. By using deceipt, lies, and half-truths he takes our money to the bank. To lie is to shame art. To seek political gain through misleading the audience is no better than Martha Stewart lying to investigators. A noble strategy would be one of full disclosure.

Leading medical journals now require financial disclosures of the contributors, to identify any financial conflicts of interest (visit: http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/advice/e...shtml#competing). The film artists need to do the same.

Michael Moore needs to disclose that at the time the movie was released that he was a registered Democrat (clearly a conflict of interest when creating an anti-Republican film). Moore needs to disclose that he was registered in two different states to vote when the movie was released. Isn't this the worst corruption of a democracy: one person having TWO votes? (visit: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0628041moore1.html, http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0628041moore2.html, http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0628041moore3.html). Michael Moore is causing voter disenfranchisement. I only have ONE vote, he has two, so now I'm just as disenfranchised as Palm Beach County, Florida.

Film artists of other clearly political movies should do the same. For example, the producer of the movie "The Reagans." Is she/he a Democrat or Republican or Libertarian? Be honest: don't just state "I'm a registered Independent." Rather, it should be a requirement that the producer state a political leaning.

Scientists hold themselves to high standards of financial disclosure when publishing their research and opinion articles. It's time that Hollywood does the same. If not, then in Martha's words, they should feel "shameful." *

* Soon after her 30-minute hearing ended, however, Stewart was back on the offensive. Appearing before television cameras outside the courthouse, Martha called it a "shameful day." http://edition.cnn.com/2004/BUSINES...martha.stewart/

COMPETING INTEREST: Libertarian
