AHA Revises guidelines for heart disease
The American Heart Association recently released new guildelines for the management of heart disease. Findings of the guildelines, which are endorsed also by the American College of Cardiology include:
* Effects of hormone replacement on cardiac disease is unclear
* Increased use of BETA BLOCKERS and ACE INHIBITORS is recommended
* Recommendation that eligible patients be prescribed cholesterol lowering medication prior to discharge
* Avoid second-hand smoke
* Eat a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids (tuna, salmon, etc)
* Use a newer anti-platelet drug if unable to take aspirin
