Legal Liability Costs Surge for U.S. Nursing Homes
Nursing homes are facing massive closures due to exploding legal liability costs. A decade ago, the legal liability costs per year per bed was approximately $300 USD. Last year, the cost was $2880 - more than a 9-fold increase. "Those are dollars that are ultimately going to lawyers and not to improve the quality of care," said Dr. Charles Roadman, president of the American Health Care Association. Comment: the US House of Representatives has consistently supported legal liability reform. Unfortunately, the US Senate Democrats believe that no reform is necessary. Is it any surprise that these politicians are the recipients of millions of dollars in campaign funds from trial lawyers? [ Reuters ]
