Doctors Should Not Wear Neck Ties
A group of British junior doctors has put forth a resolution that doctors should not wear ties because of the risk of transmitting infection. The sponsor of the resolution states that a tie can fall on something unsanitary when bending over & examining a patient, then transmit the infection when examining the next patient. "There is no point being very careful about gelling your hands between patients if your tie has just landed in something nasty and then landed on the next patient," said specialist registrar Jim McCaul. Comment: what is the purpose of the neck tie anyway? [ bmj.com Dobson 326 (7401): 1231-a ]
