Even Low Lead Levels Found to Impair Intelligence in Children
This study found a linear, inverse relationship between blood lead levels at age 3 and 5 years old, and IQ. The inverse relationship was noted even in those with a blood lead level below 10 ug per deciliter. Comment: This study suggests that any amount of lead in the blood is harmful to the blood. A blood level below 10 ug/dl should not be considered safe, rather the lower the level the better. [ NEJM Volume 348:1517-1526 April 17, 2003 Number 16 ]
