The Contribution of Alcohol to Serious Car Crash Injuries.
This study found that even small amounts of alcohol is associated with an increased risk of a serious car accident. The authors found that drivers were nearly 8 times more likely to be in a car accident if they reported having 2 or more 12-g alcoholic drinks in the preceding 6 hours compared, compared to drivers who reported no alcohol consumption. For blood alcohol levels of 0.003% up to 0.05%, there was a three-fold increased risk compared to drivers with a blood alcohol level of less than 0.003%. COMMENT: this study shows that even small amounts of alcohol may substantially increase the risk of a car accident.
