Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Management Guideline
This PDF is the quick reference to the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network guidelines for the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. Important features: a) mammography is recommended to begin starting at age 50, b) women over 65 should be given the opportunity to have mammography, but this is not routine, and c) all patients with a discreet abnormality should get triple assessment- clinical exam, mammography, and fine needle biopsy. Comment: some organizations recommend that routine screening should begin at age 40, but this has not been universally accepted. This guideline is somewhat old and it will be interesting to see if they expand the age guidelines for mammography. I suspect that they will. [ SIGN Guideline ]
