1999.08.09 Television
Last week the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended that children under two not be allowed to watch television.
This radical idea has a solid scientific rationale. Kids don't interact with television sets- they need the direct attention of other people. This direct interaction stimulates the brain in a more desirable way than a television.
Do the pediatricians have proof? No. However, their idea needs to be seriously considered. Their is ample evidence that television- as it's been used in the past- has been associated with increased crime and racial predjudice by its viewers.
