SSRI's may decrease heart attack rate in smokers
This retrospective study of 653 patients between 30 and 65 who suffered a heart attack versus a control group of 2990 found that the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors was associated with a decreased risk of a heart attack in smokers. Speculated mechanism is a combination of decreased clotting along with less depression.
