Cost-utility of drug therapy versus radioiodine therapy for Graves' disease
I-131 therapy has higher remission rate and less side effects than pharmaceutical therapy for Grave's Disease. A decision tree analysis was designed on the basis of the 2 competing strategies of drug therapy versus 131I therapy. The variables and costs were based on the literature and hospital bills. The maximum and minimum values of utility were defined as 1.0 and 0.0, respectively. The results demonstrated that I-131 therapy strategy was superior to the drug therapy strategy in terms of both cost and utility. PMID: 16038427
