FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Silver Valley Healthcare Providers access their Continuing Education through local Hospital website.

Thanks to a collaboration between Shoshone Medical Center and the Internet Medical Association, Silver Valley Healthcare Providers will be able to access their continuing medical education without having to leave the area.

Beginning in March 2002, area providers can visit the Shoshone Medical Center website (http://www.shomed.org) and login by going to the Physician Page of the website. Once they have logged in they will have access to online continuing medical education courses free of charge.

Shoshone Medical Center, located in the heart of the Silver Valley in Kellogg, Idaho, is a Critical Access facility. It is a 25 bed rural hospital that offers 24 hour physician staffed emergency department services with up-to-date radiology and laboratory diagnostic equipment and technicians. Shoshone Medical Center has entered a new era in rural healthcare and is excited about the many avenues that are opening up for our small community hospital. In July of 2001, they began a Facility Replacement project in hopes of replacing the aging (1959) facility with one that will better accommodate shorter inpatient stays and outpatient surgery and services. Construction could begin as early as Fall 2002 and the prospect is exciting for the entire community.

Shoshone Medical Center offers the small town community feeling that tends to get lost in larger facilities. Situated in a beautiful mountain valley, it is located between Silver Mountain Ski and Summer Resort (less than one mile to the Gondola base) and Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area, just 25 miles east of us off I-90. Year round outdoor activities abound whether your interest is in hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, boating, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, camping or just relaxing, Shoshone County is unbeatable. Also, due for completion by next spring is the 72 mile "Rails to Trails" path winding its way from Plummer, Idaho through the Silver Valley up to the Montana/Idaho border at the top of Lookout Pass.

Medjournal.com, Inc. is an Idaho based company that is home to the Internet Medical Journal (http://www.medjournal.com) the official publication of the Internet Medical Association. The journal was founded in 1994 and has been providing online medical education for over 8 years. The Internet Medical Association recently received accreditation as a CME provider through the Idaho Medical Association. Along with continuing medical education, the Internet Medical Association also works to reach out to isolated healthcare workers wherever they practice and provide them with access to up to date and accurate medical information as well as interaction with their peers.
