Combined assessment of left ventricular perfusion and EF in risk stratification of patients with known or suspected coronary artery diseases undergoing vasodilator stress Tc-99m sestamibi gated SPECT.

This abstract looked at 1305 consecutive patients undergoing vasodilator nuclear cardiac SPECT imaging. Those with normal perfusion and LVEF >=45% had an annualized cardiac event rate of 0.7%; those with abnormal perfusion / normal LVEF had an event rate of 1.6%; those with normal perfusion / abnormal LVEF had an event rate of 3.1%; and those with abnormal perfusion and abnormal LVEF had an event rate of 5.9%. Comment: only normal perfusion with normal LVEF gives an annualized risk of < 1%. In this study, a normal LVEF was associated with the lowest risk categories. Normal perfusion was defined as no defects at all, either at stress or rest. [ Journal of Nuclear Cardiology January/February 2003, Part 2 • Volume 10 • Number 1 ]
